Three new facilities for homeless and low-income families and children are being built in King County, Wash., thanks to the fundraising success of Hopelink's Raise the Roof Project.
The $9.5 million campaign reached its goal just before the deadline, the organization reports, when two large gifts came in: Cheryl and Kevin Hafer donated $250,000 in stock, and the Crystal Springs Foundation came through with a $150,000 grant.
Hopelink -- formerly Multi-Service Centers of North & East King County -- has used the money that has come in so far to build three facilities in King County. One center -- being completed this week -- will serve as home to a food bank and several of Hopelink's family programs.
The other two facilities -- to be completed in March -- will offer homeless and low-income families 20 new transitional housing units and a child care center.
