Government provides online resources for parents

Attorney General Janet Reno has unveiled a Web site offering parents information on education, child care, health and safety.

The "Parenting Resources for the 21st Century" site was created in collaboration with various government agencies and is sponsored through the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

It features information on child care and youth development, family issues, drug abuse prevention, extracurricular activities such camps, museums, youth employment and mentoring, and other items, Reuters News reports.

"This Web site covers everything from caring for a newborn to finding college scholarships. It will provide quick and easy access to a broad array of information that parents need to meet the challenges of raising a child," Reno stated.

Internet users can log on to the site and learn about such time-sensitive events as seminars, conferences, and other happenings for parents, care givers and youth.

The "Parenting Resources" site also provides links to statistics and research on various issues, funding sources, and information about newly-released books and periodicals.
