Grantseeking Associate

National Association of State Public Interest Research Groups
Los Angeles, CA

With public debate around important issues often dominated by special interests pursuing their own narrow agenda, the State Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs) offer an independent, articulate voice on behalf of the public interest. For 28 years, our mission has been to serve as a public interest "watchdog", uncovering new threats to the environment, consumers and a responsible government; researching and proposing innovative policy solutions; educating and engaging citizens and decision-makers; organizing grassroots support for strong environmental and consumer protection; and working to counter the influence of vested economic interests on state and national institutions.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Working with the National Development Department of the State PIRGs, the Grantseeking Associate will become part of the team campaigning protect the environment and public interest. The Grantseeking Associate will work side-by-side with the organization's Development staff to assist the grantseeking efforts of environmental and public interest advocates, attorneys, organizers and scientists across the country. The Grantseeking Associate's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Grantseeking Assistance. The Grantseeking Associate will work with staff across the country to develop and implement strategic grantseeking plans to raise money for environmental and public interest projects.
  • Foundation Targeting. The Grantseeking Associate will research, identify and assign appropriate foundation targets for state PIRG and affiliated project staff.
  • Proposal Writing and Editing. The Grantseeking Associate will draft and edit proposals on environmental, consumer and good government issues for PIRG and affiliated organizations.
  • Clearinghouse. The Grantseeking Associate will help to maintain an extensive database on current and prospective funders and provide information to grantseekers about these foundations upon request.

LOCATION:
Los Angeles, CA.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal skills and should have experience in database management. Experience working with a public interest advocacy organization or political campaign experience is preferred, but not required.

SALARY & BENEFITS:
Salary ranges from $18,000 to $35,000 depending on experience. An outstanding benefits package includes health care, educational loan assistance for qualified staff, a retirement plan, paid vacation and sick days, parental leave, and, in some locations, a dependent care assistance program. Opportunities for advancement, travel, and additional training are available.
