Fiscal Director

Kingsbridge Heights Community Center

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SUPERVISES: Bookkeepers

PRINCIPAL CONTACTS: Executive Director & Admin. Staff, Accounting Staff & Auditors

JOB SUMMARY:
The fiscal director works in collaboration with the executive director to establish and implement fiscal policies and procedures that will maintain the financial integrity of the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center. This entails managing the Center’s accounting, financial reporting and control systems to ensure that accurate information and reports are provided to the Executive Director for effective decision making in determining and maintaining the organizations strategic directions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Internal Systems Analysis

  • Review current accounting and financial systems and make recommendations for improvements that will increase the effectiveness/timeliness of those systems.
  • Review and make recommendations re: staffing structure/current staff.

Financial Management

  • Work w/AED for Administration in preparing and analyzing budgets for operations and government contracts.
  • Produce and analyze financial reports and work for the executive director.
  • Work with the auditor to ensure accuracy of annual audit and tax reports.
  • Manage and/or maintain all bookkeeping functions:
  • Supervise all staff performing bookkeeping functions.
  • Coding of expenditures.
  • Reconcile receipts and disbursements, and inter-fund transfer accounts.
  • Complete monthly vouchers for government contracts.
  • Budget modifications.
  • Manage/oversee payroll records and relationship with payroll service.
  • Generate general ledger activity reports and revenue/expense reports.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow and short-term reserves. Consult with executive director on cash flow situation.
  • Serve as liaison to bank: develop and maintain good working relationship with manager, ensure compliance with bank requirements (resolutions, signature cards, etc.)
  • Manage relationship with auditing firm.
  • Monitor and Notify ED of any potential issues or problems that may negatively impact on the agency; problems may include but not limited to cash flow, audits, contract issues and personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated skills in fund accounting, cost allocation, G/L, accounting analysis, financial statement prep, & audit. BA or BS in Accounting, MS preferred or CPA & min 5 yrs exp in nonprofit working w/government & private grants in a f/c position. Experience using computerized accounting programs & supervisory experience. Specific expertise desired in fiscal analysis, budget control or final responsibility for acctg./financial management of a firm or organization.

REQUIREMENTS:
Superior skill in financial analysis and management; ability to make finance and accounting come alive and be made understandable, and an understanding of nonprofit management and governance. Strong communication and presentation skills. Solid organization skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and complete projects on time. As part of the employee’s ongoing professional development, he/she must exhibit appropriate growth or acquisition of all relevant skills. Salary mid 50’s – mid 60’s. EOE.
