The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) seeks candidates for a RESEARCH ASSOCIATE position. ICTJ is a newly established human rights organization based in New York City aiming to strengthen the field of transitional justice – assisting societies in transition to respond to a legacy of massive abuse – through technical assistance, networking, documentation and strategic research.
All positions with ICTJ require the ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines; a high level of professionalism and attention to detail; the ability to work as part of a team, but also independently; comfort working in a multicultural, international environment; excellent written and spoken English(other languages strongly desirable), and strong computer skills.
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Reports to: He / she will work under the supervision of a Program Director.
Purpose: The Research Associate will help conceptualize and execute the research program.
Major Responsibilities:
- Help stimulate the field of transitional justice by identifying important areas of study and proposing collaborative research projects with partner organizations or individuals.
- Undertake some of the ICTJ’s core research.
- Monitor and assist research undertaken by other ICTJ staff.
Core Requirements:
Minimum Education
- Advanced university degree in law, international affairs, public policy, journalism, or other relevant field of social science.
Minimum Experience
- 5 years relevant work experience, at least 2 years of which have been in a research or academic position.
- Strong commitment to human rights.
- Record of publication in a relevant field.
- Strong analytic and conceptual skills.
- Experience in editing or reviewing other's research.
