The National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development (National CAPACD) is the first national organization dedicated to the housing and community development needs of the Asian and Pacific Islander populations. National CAPACD’s member organizations have been providing a vast array of services to Asian and Pacific Islander, immigrant, refugee, minority and low-income populations for over two decades, gaining both experience and recognition for their work in community development across the country. The formation of National CAPACD has coordinated the work of non-profit organizations serving these rapidly expanding communities. National CAPACD seeks to impact the legislative policy, leverage resources and support at a local and national level and create research that could impact the communities we serve.
National CAPACD’s mission is to enhance the capacity and ability of community based organizations to conduct community development activities for the Asian and Pacific Islander American communities. We seek to accomplish this by creating an information sharing network which can provide mutual support for established and emerging community development programs, and to define advocacy issues; establishing a presence and voice for raising awareness and impacting community development policies on a local and national level; increasing public and private resources for building community development capacity.
National CAPACD is seeking its first Executive Director, enclosed is a job description highlighting the responsibilities and qualities we consider important for the position. The Executive Director will be responsible for establishing the organization’s Washington D.C. office, representing the organization in public policy advocacy, developing relationships with other national and local organizations, resource development and building membership. The Executive Director will report to an active national board of directors with the following major areas of responsibility:
Responsibilities include:
- Provide Vision and Leadership. The Executive Director must provide vision and leadership to fulfillment of the organization’s mission and be an effective advocate for community development in service to its membership.
- Manage the Organization. The Executive Director must oversee the sound management of the organization: financial and budget management, office management, governance and organizational policies, staff and consultant supervision.
- Public Policy Representation. The Executive Director must be able to effectively represent the organization in national public policy deliberations with federal agencies, Congress, media and funders.
- Build Productive Relationships. The Executive Director must develop and maintain positive relationships with a broad spectrum of relationships: national organizations, community development organizations, Asian American organizations.
- Resource Development. The Executive Director ,with the assistance of the Board of Directors, is responsible for the financial health and sustainability of the organization through grants and contract income, conference sponsorships , and membership income.
- Membership Services: The Executive Director with the assistance of the board committees and staff is responsible for the provision of services to inform, involve, and support the organization’s membership, as well as strategies and services to expand membership.
Qualifications
- Commitment and passion for community development
- Experience and knowledge in one or more of the many aspects of community development: housing, business development, neighborhood planning, community organizing.
- Experience and or proven ability in resource development
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to speak before large groups, and ability to work in coalitions.
- Experience or commensurate skills in the areas of legislative or public policy processes.
- Highly organized , ability to multi-task, and self directed.
- Basic computer skills
- Experience in financial management.
- Experience and knowledge of Asian American communities.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
