WITNESS to Webcast series on human rights abuses

A new series of video Webcasts will try to highlight human rights abuses and problems around the world. The bi-weekly WITNESS Rights Alert is being produced by human rights program WITNESS and Oddcast.com.

As previously reported by PNN, WITNESS -- a program of the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights -- has been a pioneer in using video and audio content over the Internet to spotlight human rights issues. In doing so, they hope to disseminate information from remote countries to the rest of the world.

Each video will be introduced by a celebrity or advocate. The first video, "Children of War," is hosted by Peter Gabriel and Angelique Kidjo and covers an estimated 250,000 children across the world being used in military conflicts.

"WITNESS Rights Alert features powerful, unfiltered stories from every corner of the world," says Peter Gabriel, who helped found the organization. "WITNESS stories are told through the eyes of women and men who are fighting for human rights, and they offer real ways for online visitors to get involved in campaigns."

Other upcoming stories on WITNESS Rights Alert will cover such topics as Russian prostitution and slavery. Hosts will include Tim Robbins, Lou Reed and others.
