AOL Foundation starts "e-philanthropy" portal
An Internet portal that aims to offer "one-stop helping" for those interested in the charitable world, Helping.org, has been launched by the AOL Foundation.
Users coming to the Helping.org site will be able to find sections on nonprofit information, volunteering, donating and bridging the digital divide accessible from the first page that they see.
Using partnerships with several philanthropic organizations, the site will make it possible for users to find information on disasters, donate online to their favorite charity or be matched up to interesting volunteering opportunities, foundation officials say.
Through those partnerships, the site will offer:
Information on over 600,000 nonprofits through GuideStar
Volunteer opportunities in their areas through VolunteerMatch
Disaster and relief effort news from the American Red Cross
Youth services information through America's Promise
Online donations using the PipeVine system
Information from the Benton Foundation, Independent Sector and the National Urban League.
The Helping.org organizers have also pledged to allow the full amount of each online donation -- minus credit card transaction fees -- to go to the designated charity.
