Second Harvest begins online campaign

Second Harvest and an online grocery-seller called NetGrocer have launched an online effort to donate money a program to help the hungry.

The "Click to Give" campaign will allow people to make online donations to Second Harvest, the nation's largest hunger-relief organization. The "Click to Give" donation site may be reached through the Web sites of Second Harvest and NetGrocer.

NetGrocer is donating $5 in food products for every online donation made. The company also will give 5 percent discounts to customers who make donations to the "Click to Give" campaign.

Through the "Click to Give" program, people may select donation packages of between $50 and $375 that feed a family of one, two, or four for a week or a month. Also offered are three baby packages to choose from, ranging from $15 to $25.

Second Harvest, the largest hunger-relief organization in the U.S. and its sixth-largest charity, delivers 1 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products a year to about 50,000 agencies that feed 26 million hungry Americans.

North Brunswick, N.J.-based NetGrocer was founded in 1995 and offers online ordering of nonperishable groceries. The groceries are shipping to arrive in one to four business days.
