Nonprofit center announces top 10 cities to build a nonprofit
Arizona State University's Nonprofit Management Institute announced its top 10 list of U.S. cities in which to start, nurture and grow a nonprofit.
The cities, listed alphabetically, are Austin, Chicago, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Orlando, Phoenix, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
The list was based on the following criteria:
Fastest growing cities in the United States;
Results of United Way campaigns for '98-'99;
Number of nonprofit management education and training centers;
Number of nonprofit technology incubators/ resource clusters;
Best managed cities in the United States that emphasize the nonprofit sector;
Best places to start a small business;
Government regulation of nonprofits;
Government assistance to nonprofits;
Number of fund raisers employed;
Media publications devoted to philanthropy.
The ASU Nonprofit Management Institute has other top ten lists, such as the top ten nonprofit job listing sites in the United States, the top ten online grant applications for U.S. funders, and the top ten nonprofit resource Web sites.
