Patients, doctors and researchers dealing with HIV/AIDS now have online access to a directory considered to be one of the most comprehensive resources for treatment information, the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) reports.
The online version of amfAR's HIV/AIDS Treatment Directory is a searchable database, allowing site visitors to look for the latest in clinical studies of experimental treatment therapies as an alternative to established options.
Visitors will be able to use this search function to find the most appropriate responses for their current medical condition, amfAR reports.
"The clinical study search function enables doctors as well as patients to find the most appropriate trials of experimental drugs by anonymously entering CD4+ counts, viral loads, geographical location, or specific condition," says Kevin Robert Frost, amfAR's Director of Clinical Research and Information.
In addition to clinical trials information, the new online directory also offers comprehensive information on drugs used to treat HIV, along with contact information for drug companies and news about expanded use programs that allow the use of previously-restricted drugs to treat HIV/AIDS.
Persons affected by HIV can obtain a free print version of the directory by calling AIDS Clinical Trial Information Services at (800)874-2572 or the HIV/AIDS Treatment Information Services at (800)448-0440.
