Money will be distributed to 11 organizations in Colorado
The Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation is reporting the distribution of $1.6 million in donations made to the Healing Fund, which was set up in April in response to the shootings at Columbine High School.
The money, being distributed to 11 Columbine organizations, is the remainder of the $3.8 million Healing Fund set up by the Mile High United Way, a foundation press release reports. Most of that money was given away beginning July 2. About $1.4 million was distributed to the families of the victims of the shootings, and $740,000 went to helping all students, faculty and staff of the school.
About $500,000 of the remaining money will go to community programs, and $1.1 million is for outreach services to victims.
The following organizations will receive the grants:
- Mental Health Outreach Program: $425,000
- Jefferson Center for Mental Health - Columbine Connections Resource Center: $330,000
- The Jefferson Foundation: $294,000
- Lutheran Medical Center Community Foundation: $160,000
- Lutheran Social Services of Colorado Inc.: $121,000
- The Foothills Foundation: $120,000
- Family Tree: $56,900
- Exempla Lutheran Medical Center: $50,000
- Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment: $30,000
- Jefferson County Public Schools: $21,695
The McCormick Tribune Foundation was started in 1955 as a charitable trust of the estate of Col. Robert R. McCormick, once the editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune. The Foundation has fund partnerships with more than 40 media outlets and sports teams from throughout the U.S.
