The Spanish-language cable network Telemundo raised more than $11.6 million in five hours to benefit the American Red Cross Hurricane Georges relief effort.
Telemundo's "Unidos por el Caribe" (United for the Caribbean) benefit featured some broadcasts from Puerto Rico, which had significant damage.
Ruben Blades, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Tito Puente Jr. and Jon Secada were among the entertainers performing during the event.
Several large corporations contributed to the relief effort, including Major League Baseball, which donated $1 million during the telethon, AT&T, MCI and Visa International.
The network is also referring donors to the Red Cross' Disaster Relief Fund, which can be reached at (800) 435-7669 for English, or (800) 257-7575 for Spanish.
Miami-based Telemundo is the nation's second-largest Spanish-language network. It reaches 63 U.S. markets. The company is owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Liberty Media.
