Philip Morris gives $2 million to stop domestic violence
Philip Morris Companies, in partnership with the National Network to End Domestic Violence Fund (NNEDV), has announced $2 million in grants to 180 local organizations dealing with domestic violence.
The grants launch the 1999 Doors of Hope grantmaking initiative. Funds go to providing food, emergency shelter, counseling and outreach for victims of domestic violence nationwide. Domestic violence organizations also will use the funds for training personnel.
Philip Morris will contribute $4 million in grants this year to help end domestic violence, according to a company news release.
Grant recipients include:
$50,000 to the Greene County Domestic Violence Project, Xenia, Ohio for an emergency shelter and family services center
$25,000 to Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Penn. to expand a training center for domestic violence professionals
$15,000 to Jewish Family & Career Services, Atlanta, Ga. for the Peace in Home project and education for Atlanta's Jewish community
$10,000 to New Beginnings for Battered Women and Their Children, Seattle, Wash. for food for transitional housing residents.
NNEDV, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is an education, membership, and advocacy organization of statewide domestic violence coalitions.
