Dallas Opera Receives Anonymous $10 Million Matching Grant

The Dallas Opera has received a $10 million challenge grant from an anonymous donor, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The challenge, which must be met by October 31, 2011, will be used to jumpstart the $20 million Cultural Renaissance Endowment Fund, which is designed to help the opera company increase its artistic quality and recruit a first-rate general director. In addition, the funds will allow the the company to offer naming opportunities for various positions.

“Our goal is to rank among the top opera companies in the world,” said Dallas Opera president Kern Wildenthal. “[The company] is uniquely positioned to lead a cultural renaissance in the city of Dallas and North Texas….Upon its completion, the Cultural Renaissance Endowment Fund will have a tremendous impact on future productions, programs, and planning.”
