AJC Humanitarian Fund Donates to Pakistan Flood Relief

AJC, the global Jewish advocacy organization, is providing humanitarian assistance to Pakistan, as the Muslim nation deals with the impact of the massive flood that has affected one-fifth of the country.

“Our tradition teaches us to help those in need, especially in crisis situations,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. “We are taught that we are all created in the divine image. When tragedy strikes, in this case in Pakistan, we wish to affirm our common humanity.”

The AJC funds will be delivered to Pakistan through the Joint Distribution Committee, an American Jewish humanitarian organization that operates internationally.

In 2005, AJC partnered with Catholic Relief Services to provide assistance to Pakistan after a devastating earthquake struck there.

AJC, though our Harriet and Robert Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund and earmarked contributions, supported relief efforts earlier this year to earthquake survivors in Haiti and Chile.

Previous AJC donations have included assistance to victims of the South Asia Tsunami; Turkish earthquake victims, including building a school; substantial aid to Muslim refugees from Kosovo; earthquake relief in El Salvador; earthquake relief in India, including rebuilding Hindu and Muslim schools; repair of churches in the American South damaged by arsonists; aid to victims of Hurricane Mitch in Central America; rebuilding of churches and synagogues after Hurricane Katrina; and assistance to flood victims in the Dominican Republic.
